Manila Matriarchs: A New Unscripted Series Showcasing Empowering Filipina Women

Manila Matriarchs is an exciting unscripted series that highlights strong, inspiring women in the Philippines. The confirmed cast includes powerhouse figures such as entrepreneur Joanna Preysler-Francisco, fashion icon Myrza Sison, Silicon Valley CEO Trisha Bantigue-Tsao, and renowned TV presenter Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon. This 8-part series explores motherhood, sisterhood, careers, love, social status, and the true pursuit of happiness among these exceptional women.
Created and executive produced by Cece Asuncion (Strut, Road to the Runway) of Girl, Bye Productions, and produced by Filipino-American trailblazers Miguel Santos (Eat Your Words, Mom vs Matchmaker), and JP Mallo and Justyn Reyes of J Creative Entertainment, Manila Matriarchs celebrates the strength and brilliance of Filipina women.
JP Mallo was inspired to join this new project after reconnecting with Cece Asuncion at the Manila International Film Festival Panel. JP knew this series was not only timely but also essential.
“Wow, we need this. The world needs this,” JP thought. “And beyond that, it sounds incredibly fun! Who wouldn’t want to be running around in Manila with these hilarious and brilliant women!”
Passionate about supporting Manila Matriarchs and honoring strong Filipina women, JP Mallo credits his mother as the driving force behind his work.
“My mom will forever be my inspiration and queen.” - JP Mallo
“My career in entertainment is largely dedicated to her. She’s always pushed me to be the best version of myself and believe that I could accomplish whatever it was that I set my mind to,” JP shares.
Manila Matriarchs is currently in post-production.
Bench: Body of Work – A Trailblazing Global Documentary Collaboration with Iconic Philippine Fashion Brand
JP Mallo and J Creative Entertainment are collaborating with the Philippines' largest clothing brand, Bench, on an exciting new documentary titled Bench: Body of Work. The film will chronicle the highly anticipated return of the iconic Bench Demin & Underwear Show in 2025 after an 8-year hiatus.
Bench: Body of Work will celebrate the brand’s legacy, its dedication to fashion, authenticity, Filipino culture, and the innovative leadership of Bench CEO, Ben Chan.
“This new partnership with J Creative Entertainment will help to usher in a new generation of forward thinkers spotlighting our stories on a global stage,” Ben Chan explains.
JP shares that many first- and second-generation Filipino-Americans already hold stories with Bench, from their first trip to the Philippines to receiving Bench clothing as a pasalubong (gift) from visiting relatives. Bench’s legacy has continuously reached Filipinos worldwide and JP Mallo aims to share those stories to audiences across the globe.
“[Ben Chan’s] story, his legacy, and the empire he has built is quite astonishing,” praises JP. “With the return of the iconic Bench Denim and Underwear Show after 8 years, it is a true testament of the mark he has made in Philippine fashion and pop culture.”
JP is excited to bring these stories to life and continue elevating Filipino culture and representation through different mediums.
Bench: Body of Work is currently in production.
New Lounge: Expanding into the Wellness Space
J Creative Entertainment is venturing into wellness through a new global partnership with New Lounge. Specializing in nails, eyelashes, and overall wellness, New Lounge is a leading beauty brand in Manila, now expanding internationally to locations in Los Angeles.
JP Mallo is passionate about taking this next step for J Creative Entertainment and breaking into the wellness space. Just turning 40 last year, JP has gained new perspectives by surpassing the milestone and hopes to use his experiences in this new project.
“I wanted to be more focused and deliberate about my time, my health, my energy, my purpose,” JP shares. “Being a creator and storyteller for a living - it’s important to have wells to refill my cup and to keep my creativity alive.”
As current New Lounge clients and collaborators, JP Mallo and his husband Justyn Reyes, actively embrace a lifestyle of balanced nutrition, workouts, and meditation. Expanding J Creative Entertainment’s initiatives to include wellness advocacy is both a personal and innovative step for the company.
“With New Lounge and J Creative the plan is to develop a series of projects, experiences, services, and television/film content that cater to the health and wellness advocates and the general community,” JP Mallo says.
Looking Ahead: JP Mallo and the Future of J Creative Entertainment
JP Mallo is already making his mark in the industry through his production company, J Creative Entertainment. With three upcoming projects and more on the horizon, JP reflects on his inspiring journey to becoming Founder and Co-CEO. Despite early fears about launching his own ventures, JP Mallo found strength in the entrepreneurial legacy of his grandparents, father, uncle, and aunt – self-made individuals who surrounded him with an innovative spirit from an early age.
Spending time on-sets and witnessing his mentors chase their dreams, JP was inspired to embrace his own creativity and ambitions. Replacing fear with excitement, JP now looks ahead to the future with a renewed passion for amplifying the stories and experiences of the Filipino community.
“I really do believe there are no accidents. Everything I experienced led me to this moment right now and I’m just grateful,” JP expresses. “I want to use whatever platform I have to spotlight others in turn and the amazing things they also have to offer to the world.”
